Creating A New Franchise
Is Pit's latest adventure worthy of creating a new franchise?
Published on 08/05/2012

I really wasn't expecting to enjoy Kid Icarus: Uprising quite as much as I did, and thanks to its huge replayability, I'm still enjoying it a month after its release. That got me thinking - Kid Icarus: Uprising does such a good job at creating and reinventing the Kid Icarus series, that there is potential there to make it more than a series, and create Nintendo's latest franchise.

The groundwork is there. The AR cards are a hugely popular meta-game, the cartoon shorts show that the series has the potential for an animated spin-off, and the cast of characters are so memorable and funny that I'd be happy to buy figurines of them. And that's before we even mention a sequel!

So with that in mind, for my latest article on Nintendo Life I take a look at whether or not Nintendo will turn Uprising into the first game of a new franchise, and what the likelihood is that we will be seeing episodes of Kid Icarus on TV soon.

Kid Icarus - Nintendo's Next Big Franchise?

Whether planned or not, Nintendo have fallen into a routine with their first party releases. We always see a major Mario title, we always see a Zelda title and inbetween we see Metroid and Kirby titles. But this looks set to change with the release of Kid Icarus: Uprising on 3DS. Thanks to a dedicated effort from Sakurai and his team, Uprising reinvents the Kid Icarus world, creating not only an amazing game, but also the potential for a new first-party franchise.
